The Big Questions

Geography 465 is structured around a series of "big" questions. Each question will be the subject of an Assignment (each due the week after it is handed out). The list of questions may develop somewhat during the quarter; for starters there are eight (8) spaced approximately one per week. Follow the link from each question to the assignment page (due dates are listed separately):

  1. What does geodesy have to do with GIS?
  2. How does a projection influence GIS representations?
  3. How can you compute geometric relationships?
  4. How can you represent spatial relationships in a data structure?
  5. What is different about a database?
  6. How can data structures be designed for efficiency?
  7. What transformations are more tricky than others?
  8. Is O-O just a buzzword?
